TO THE EDGE OF THE STARS: Fort Myers author Joyce Henderson has penned a charming romance novel. Henderson, like cream, rises to the top in her treatment of the Indians. Being half-Indian, the Savage siblings have a foot in both worlds and honor many of the Comanche traditions and habits. Henderson...writes with compassion and respect about Indians while evoking a crisply dramatic and fascinating portrait of the Lone Star State in the 1800s...Florida Weekly

WRITTEN ON THE WIND - Leisure, November 2005.

Henderson uses the potent culture clash theme to the best of her ability, incorporating Comanche customs and mores into her love story to add depth and historical accuracy. This is what Native American romance is all about, and Henderson delivers a great story with marvelous details.

Debut book: WALKS IN SHADOW, Leisure, 2005

This story took off with a bang, and I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of action and adventure, and the characters were awesome. However, I felt the story seemed to cool down and become less romantic at the end. Still, this debut novel is a very good read... The Best Reviews...Tammie Ard, Reviewer

There are several tangled threads woven into this realistic western: Holden's need to avenge his friend's death, his search for the child he left in the Timberlakes' care and his growing love for Samantha. All merge with the powerful story of a strong-willed woman trying to maintain her independence and find love. Sensual. Romantic Times...4 Stars

I like reading Native American romances, but most have the same, or similar plotlines. I'm not saying those books aren't filled with some shockingly good scenes, or that a couple of them aren't in my "keeper" box. What I am saying is that I am grateful to Joyce Henderson for writing WALKS IN SHADOW, a completely different type of Native American Romance. One that reminds me a bit of the movie, Dances With Wolves.
Simply because this story is unique in its choice of hero, makes it a good read. It's also nice that the plot surprises and delights you with many well choreographed twists and turns. What a truly interesting take on what I thought was going to be the same old thing.

This exciting western romance will thrill sub-genre fans as Holden struggles between his love for Samantha (and her need of a husband) and Guy in opposition to his obsession to avenge his sister's rape and death. The lead couple rules the story line as the independent Samantha wants to keep her freedom just like the special horse that she hopes Holden can tame without breaking the steed's spirit. Though the villians pale next to the dynamic lead, Joyce Henderson provides a strong tale.

__________

In her debut novel, Joyce Henderson's knowledge or horses and Indian heritage shines through in this very well-written story with realistic characters and good dialogue. The story flows smoothly and will hold a reader's interest until the end. Samantha and Holden are strong characters. She is very capable, and is hurt by the fact that her father doesn't think she can run the ranch on her own. Raised as he was, Holden doesn't feel that he is worthy of Samantha's love, and he is torn about his purpose at Timberoaks. After seeing how much the Timberlakes care about Guy, he is reluctant to take the boy from them, but can he walk away and leave him again? All the secondary characters have a special part in the story and help to move it along. This reviewer wouldn't be surprised if there are future stories concerning some of them.
I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of WALKS IN SHADOW.

FROM MY READERS...

Just finished your book and had to send a quick note.
WALKS IN SHADOW is by far one of the best books I've ever read. Loved the story (I'm very interested in the Comanche culture now) and there was so much tension! Next one's out in November, right? I can hardly wait.
Your latest fan, Chris

I love your characters and I love the way you set the scene and drew me into the setting and then kept me on edge with their words.
Do you have other fantastic stories to tell?
Gwen
